Emmaus Road International was birthed on February 28, 1983. It was at a time when Neal Pirolo, founder and director of ERI was seeking the Lord for new direction in ministry. Through the counsel of several friends (who became the founding Board of Directors), they sensed the new ministry would continue in the area of missions education, would encompass a great number of churches and would be an independent corporation. During the normal course of his Bible reading, on that February day, Neal came
to Luke 24. As he read the Emmaus Road story, the Lord "neon-lighted" a number
of phrases which characterized the teaching he had been stressing for
cross-cultural ministry. And they have become the thrust of Emmaus Road
International:
1) Jesus came along side and walked with the disciples. A good missionary will come along side and work with the nationals. 2) Jesus hid His own identity from them. A good missionary will "hide" his own identity. If any names must be in the marquee let it be the names of the nationals.

Meet Neal Pirolo - The DirectorNeal Pirolo is the
founder and director of Emmaus Road International. His background is in
education. With a BA in Bible and in Education, and an MA in Educational
Administration, he has his California Teaching and Administrative Credentials.
He has taught and/or administered students from preschool through postgraduate
in public and/or private schools in the USA, Peru and Brazil. He founded
Maranatha Christian Academy in Costa Mesa, California. Neal also directed a
one-year ministry school in San Diego, California for five years. He is an
ordained minister.
Meet Yvonne PiroloThough I, too, have a BA degree, I believe my "education" mainly came from life's experiences in relating with people. I have always enjoyed one-on-one interaction. But little by little, I was encouraged into teaching positions. And now I thoroughly enjoy teaching the Interpersonal Relationships class in the ACTS Training Courses. I help Neal in several seminars and teach at women's missions conferences. For many years Neal & I traveled in ministry together. But again, being encouraged into leading a short term team to Eastern Europe, I now try to lead one or two trips per year, as well as some travel with Neal. Trying to keep a balance between ministry and family isn't always easy. Two of our four children (and 8 of our 11 grandchildren) live in the San Diego area. Just keeping up with birthday parties and special days is challenging, but fun. One special-special day was when grandma and grandpa took 9 grandchildren for an overnight hotel stay in Mexico! Our grandchildren range in age from ten to seventeen years. We have been blessed. Our home has also become a rest stop for many missionaries and friends passing through. Our lives are full! We thank the Lord for the privilege to be doing His will. Meet the Serving As Senders AdvocatesThe reports of the impact Serving As Senders has had on the improved care of missionaries have been exciting. Many creative ways have implemented the principles of the book, educating the church - and the missions community, in general - in a broader scope of missionary care.A number of people who have experienced the benefits of this book's message have indicated their desire to help others. They make themselves available for counsel and to do the book as a seminar. Financial considerations are determined between you and them.
